This tabletop role playing game was my final project for a class at UC Santa Cruz on tabletop game design. The main requirement was that the finished game rules needed to have no more than 1500 words, with some leniency for things like tables and examples. My idea came from a homebrew item "The Ring of the Grammarian" from the Dungeons & Dragons game on the Adventure Zone podcast. In the past, there were a few times when my friends and I would think about spells from D&D and try changing a letter in the spell's title to get something usually hilarious.
At first, I made this game more cooperative for the players, with a Game Master leading them. In playtests, however, it was apparent that the Game Master's role was not helpful they would usually feel left out of the fun of creating wild spells. This led me in the direction of making the game a friendly competition where the other players are responsible for tweaking your failed spells in a way that mirrors the experiences I had that inspired the game.
